Olympic Football Tournaments Rio 2016

After playing in the under 23 championships of the AFC in Qatar,  three teams will represent the continent at the next Olympics in Brazil! They will be Japan, Korea, and Iraq who will all go to the tournament with previous experience.

Japan – who own the tournament – have already won a bronze medal at an Olympic games as have South Korea, who lost the in the final to the Japanese. Iraq, who finished third, reached the semi-finals of Olympic Games in Athens 2004.

The sub 23 championship of AFC was decided in a thrilling final, although the real prize of qualifying for Rio’16 had already been allocated to these three countries.

The final started with the Korean’s scoring 2 early goals which turned the match in their favour. Japan then introduced Takuma Asano’s who is one of the young talents in Japanese football. Asano’s introduction sparked a remarkable comeback. After, only, 6 minutes, they cut the deficit to 2-1 with Asano scoring before Yajima got the equaliser. With 10 minutes left, Asano, scored again to give victory to his country.

Japan will go to Brazil as one of the favourites to win gold. This is helped by their good technical play and physical strength.

In the Tokyo’20 Olympic Games, we hope to see some of the MV8 Academy players representing their countries!.
